How DryMark Restoration Hoboken Was Born in Hoboken

We opened this branch in 2011, the same year DryMark started, because we’d been living in Hoboken and watching the restoration trade fail our neighbors. The moment that stuck with us happened that spring. A couple on Garden Street had a pipe burst in their kitchen ceiling. Three companies came through. The first quoted a number so high they still talk about it at dinner parties. The second tore out drywall, set up a fan, and vanished for four days. The third tried to sell them a whole-house mold policy they didn’t need.

We were there helping them sort through the mess, and we remember standing in that living room with the plaster dust still in the air, thinking: this shouldn’t require a law degree and a lucky guess. Hoboken’s old brownstones and converted industrial buildings need people who understand what happens when a 1920s cast-iron pipe meets a modern renovation. We called DryMark that week. The brand had the drying logs, the flat-price system, the written scope before anyone starts. What we brought was the local knowledge. This branch opened with one promise: we’d treat every job like it was our own building, because it practically was.

Alicia Brennan’s Personal Connection to the Damage Restoration Trade

I got into this work sideways, through a flood that wasn’t even mine. A friend in Jersey City had a water heater let go on the third floor of a walk-up. I helped her move furniture, then stayed to watch the restoration crew. What struck me wasn’t the equipment, though the roar of those first LGR dehumidifiers was something else. It was the gap between what the homeowner understood and what the crew was actually doing. My friend kept asking if her floors were ruined. The lead tech kept saying “we’ll see.” Nobody showed her a moisture reading. Nobody explained why they were cutting a four-foot flood cut instead of twelve inches. She was paying by the hour and learning nothing.

I started reading everything: the IICRC S500 standard, psychrometric charts, the way vapor pressure moves through plaster versus drywall. I bought a used moisture meter and started testing walls in my own apartment building, learning what “dry” actually meant in numbers. The smell of a properly dried cavity is specific, almost neutral, like clean paper. The smell of one that’s still wet underneath is musty in a way that hits the back of your throat. I learned to tell the difference before the meter confirmed it.

Ten years in, what gets me up is still that moment when a homeowner understands what’s actually happening in their walls. Not the panic, not the sales pitch, just the physics of it, explained plain. If I weren’t doing this, I’d probably be teaching somewhere, or fixing old motorcycles. The through-line is the same: taking something apart, understanding how it works, putting it back right. Every job in Hoboken is different because every building here has its own history, its own previous renovations, its own surprises behind the lathe. That’s not a frustration. That’s the part I like.

Meet Alicia Brennan - The Person Behind Every Job

I’m Alicia Brennan, Owner and Founder of DryMark Restoration Hoboken. I’ve been in this trade since 2011, trained through the IICRC in water damage restoration and applied structural drying, and I’ve run this branch since we opened. What separates our work from a corporate send-a-tech model is simple: I’m on-site for the assessment, I sign the scope, and I’m accountable for the drying log.

On weekends you’ll find me on the Hoboken waterfront with my dog, or at the farmers market on Hudson Street. I live in a converted warehouse downtown, so I know what these old buildings do when it rains hard. My commitment to every customer is direct: you’ll get a written price before we start, a named technician with a text when they’re on the way, and a documented record of every moisture reading when we leave. No one works in your home without you knowing exactly what they’re doing and why.

Our Promise to Hoboken Homeowners

Our values come from the H.A.V.E.N. code that DryMark lives by, but we apply them here with local specifics.

Have it in writing. Every job starts with a flat price and a written scope. We learned this the hard way early on, when a homeowner on Willow Avenue assumed “dry the basement” included treating the joist bays above. It didn’t, because we hadn’t written it down. Now we write everything. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard: no work without a signed scope.

Arrive on schedule. We give a real window, name the tech, and text when they’re en route. Hoboken traffic and parking being what they are, we build in reality, not fantasy.

Verified crews. Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license and insurance New Jersey requires. We check it, and we keep the documentation available.

Evidence on every job. Photos and readings, room by room, signed and dated. This is what turns a restoration invoice into a claim an insurer pays without a fight. It’s why Haven bought DryMark in the first place.

No surprises. No door upsell, no scope creep, no “while we’re in here.” If we find something unexpected, we stop, photograph it, and write a new scope before we proceed.

Our Credentials

Our Credentials
  • State-licensed in New Jersey for damage restoration contracting
  • Insured & bonded with coverage appropriate for residential and commercial work
  • Years of local experience serving Hoboken and surrounding Hudson County communities since 2011
  • Strong local reputation built through documented work and direct homeowner referrals

Each of these matters because restoration work happens inside your home, often during stress. A state license means we’ve met New Jersey’s standards for competence and accountability. Insurance and bonding protect your property if something goes wrong. Local experience means we know how Hoboken’s building stock behaves, from the brownstones near Church Square Park to the newer construction by the waterfront. And reputation is the only credential we can’t buy, only earn job by job, drying log by drying log.

Rooted in Hoboken

We live here. We work here. We know what a hard rain does to the low-lying blocks near Observer Highway, and we’ve dried out units in the Shipyard buildings after HVAC leaks. Our service area extends to Union City, Jersey City, West New York, and across to Manhattan, Midtown, the Financial District, Murray Hill, the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Long Island City, and Secaucus, but this branch is Hoboken-based and Hoboken-staffed. The equipment we run includes Dri-Eaz and Phoenix dehumidifiers, the standard in serious drying, because this climate demands it. We’re not visiting from somewhere else. We’re your neighbors, with the documentation to prove we did the job right.
